At the time he wrote for this site, Sean Hagan was majoring in Anthropology and Russian Language at the University of Iowa. He spent six weeks studying Russian in Batumi, Georgia with SRAS in 2022, and followed this with six weeks of intensive Russian in Riga, Latvia with SRAS in 2023.
