Vestnik was launched by SRAS in 2004 as one of the world’s first online academic journals focused on showcasing student research. We welcome and invite papers written by undergraduates, graduates, and postgraduates. Research on any subject related to the broad geographic area outlined above is accepted. If you have written solid research eligible for publication according to the guidelines listed here, please submit it.
In this, its 21st issue, Vestnik explores issues as diverse as psychology, economic reform, and foreign language pedagogy.
In “The Creation and Solution of Gender Problems in ‘Finist the Bright Falcon II,’ a Russian Fairy Tale,” Lorcan Baxter, a recent graduate of Lawrence University in Wisconsin with a B.M. in Contemporary Improvisation and B.A. in Russian Studies, writes about what a popular Russian fairy tale teaches children about gender.
“Holodomor Remembrance and Ukrainian Nation Building” by Alexander Assoufid, an undergraduate majoring in Russian and Eastern European Studies and International Relations at Pomona College in Claremont, California, explores how the Holodomor became an integral part of Ukrainian identity formation.
“The Habits of Nuns in Catholic and Orthodox Traditions,” by Jordan Burks, an undergraduate pursuing a BA in Theatre with an emphasis in Design and Technology at Oklahoma State University, discusses how religious garb varies between religions.
In “Immorality and ‘General Hypnotism’ in Chekhov’s ‘Gooseberries,'” Isabella Roos, a Russian modern foreign language and literature major and history minor at University of Tennessee Knoxville, explains how Chekhov subtly points out how even enlightened people can be blind to their own prejudices.
