Lanna Demers is currently a first-year graduate student studying Modern European History, specifically Russia and the Soviet Union, at Bowling Green State University. Her research interests include culture, gender, Russia/USSR, and animal studies. She will begin her thesis research in the summer of 2015, examining the decline of the Soviet horse population alongside dekulakization in the Stalinist 1930s. In fall 2015 she plans to apply to history PhD programs and will continue to study and research the role of the horse in the Soviet Union.
